Fatwa: Saudi women must cover one eye

There are no feminists that I know of fighting to rescue Arab women from a life of being treated as property.

MB

Sheikh says women’s modesty laws not stringent enough, revelation of both eyes causes ‘corrupt behavior, conflicts with Islamic principles’
A new prohibition may be added to the long list of those placed on women in Saudi Arabia: A new sentence according to Islamic law (fatwa) determines that women exiting the doorways of their homes must cover one of their eyes.
The array of prohibitions currently placed upon Saudi women includes forbiddance to leave home without a familial “patron,” fraternize with men in public, drive a car, put makeup on and wear high heels.
The modesty squad on the streets of Saudi Arabia follows women whose abaya (long cloak) is too tight and likely to reveal their curves or those whose hair is visible through their veils.
A senior religious cleric in the country, Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan demands that the rules of modesty be further enhanced.
In the new Islamic legal sentence, al-Habadan announced that when leaving their homes, women must keep only one eye revealed.
According to the sheikh, “revelation of both eyes behind the veil is likely to encourage women to put make-up on and accentuate their eyes. This is corrupt behavior which conflicts with Islamic principles.”
So, how will the women conduct their daily lives with one eye?
According to al-Habadan, “when a woman goes out into the street or to a public place she will wear a veil and cover one eye with a piece of cloth.
“When she goes shopping and wants to assess a product, she will completely remove the piece of cloth and will be able to use both eyes for a limited amount of time.”
In the United Nation’s annual report on the state of women in the Arab world, over the past five years, Saudi women have been ranked as the most deprived and devoid of rights in Muslim society.

Israel and America are two countries that treat women as human beings, not property.
Th Muslim world is the worst violator of human rights, based on the fact that you brutally mistreat females.
I would like to see you forced to wear a burka, denied civil rights, or whipped for being a rape victim.
You should be ashamed.
One of the reasons that Saudi Arabia is such a failure as a country is that you deny representation to half your people.

Women may be safer in Saudi Arabia, but its not ONLY about safety.
I was a firefighter for twenty years.
I would have been safer as a 7-11 clerk, but that is not what I wanted to do.
I have a daughter who is a doctor, in Saudi Arabia she would be enclosed in a burka following some uneducated idiot, no offense.
You people need to wake up, women are human beings.
Until you give them rights and stop the vicious
repression of women your country will be seen as the uncultured back-water that it is.

Just as a side note, women that are educated and free are wonderful companions and friends and wives and lovers.
We don't own them, like you do.
We don't beat them.
We treasure them and respect them.

Women are safe in Saudi Arabia... sure... Like beautiful birds in
a cage, safe and said. We, humans (humans=both genders) were created to have freedom, and liberty to live a fulfilled life. The most precious way to do things is by your own will. God gave free will for every one of us. If you force something on somebody that is not God; it is the ugly you, benefitting you. Of course it is easier to rule by force and by power. But it is a sign of great weakness that you are unable to manage and lead when you hear other voices than yours.
Yes, it is true that the west is visibly more corrupt than any other region. BUT! 1st of all only visibly. The same corruption exists in other countries, well covered. Just look at the your young gentlemen going to Europe for holiday. We saw enough.
2nd-ly it is in the open. We know that our enemy is not flesh and blood but the devil who came to steal, to kill, and destroy. But we cannot do the fight by might , by power but by the Spirit of the Lord. That is why we do not have to dress our ladies in an abaya, or cover one eye. We do it by our own will. When somebody put God in the first place in their life - man or women - they turn away from anything that is evil or have an evil appearance. We r free to do that without any force. That freedom from sin is just one good thing among others that you can find in receiving Jesus in your heart.
Now, if you want to be free from sin and live a joyful life read this:
We all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ, and whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord they shall be saved.
Say this with me:
Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart.
Forgive me all of my sin. Wash me and cleanse me,
set me free. Thank you that you've died for me.
Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost,
And a hunger for the things of God. I am saved,
I'm born again, and I'm on my way to heaven because
I have Jesus in my heart.

NOW, as the minister of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ I am telling that all
Of your sins are forgiven. Always remember
to run to God and not away from Him!

We should never have given Arabs control of Arabia. They have had many years to evolve into decent societies, and they seem to be drifting farther and farther away from normal, civilized behavior.
At least when they were colonized by moral countries women had some rights.
Now they are slaves...to slaves.

As a muslim woman, from Yemen, let me speak loud n clear to the world, that Alhumdulillah "All prasises is due to Allah", WE,da women of Islam are treated as Queens.
Islam is the only religion which did not ask women to change her surname after marriage, it gave rites in property n it allowed woman to be treated with kindness n honour.
The Prophet Muhammad (may peace n blessings be upon him) said:
The most perfect believers are the best in conduct and the best of you are those who are best to their wives.
(Hadith: Ibn Hanbal)

Being in abaya does not stop women to be loved or respected. its just an order from ALLAH, n by being in veil we are first of all abiding waht Allah has asked us n secondly protecting ourselfs, u know how the Queen walks out of her palace, she needs a body guard, n a bulletproof car, n ofcourse the car usually has black glasses so that her pravicy does not come into public.
I guess this is what the celebs of hollywood do too, or some high profile person...wats wrong if a Muslimah chooses to do so. I know all u ppl are concerned abt Muslim women's condition, but till the time our men follow the Quran, no harm can cause us, Inshallah ...ALlah willing.
Lastly: I invite all of the readers to come to islam n beleive in ONE ALLAH, cause that is where ultimate success is: jannah, paradise.

Sister,

I appreciate your writing here.
I disagree with your conclusions.
It is not uncommon for prisoners to become sympathetic to their captors, that, I believe is the case with you.
The veil is quite simply, a way to subjugate women.
I have a daughter that is a Firefighter/Paramedic.
She is free and not afraid.
In the free world women are doctors and lawyers and Police officers and artists and whatever they wish to be.
In the free world women hold positions of authority and are respected, and loved, and followed because of their ability.
In most of the Islamic world women are forced, upon punishment of flogging, to wear the veil and cover themselves as if their is shame in there being women.
In the west they are free to dress as they wish, as men are, and are considered equal human beings.
The veil protects you from nothing.
In Iran, the most fundamentalist Islamic country, veiled women are imprisoned, raped and murdered by the Imams, or as you call them, Holy Men, Clerics.
In Sudan, thousands of women have been raped by Islamic Arabs, this is not my opinion, it has been documented by the U.N., Amnesty International and every reputable observer.
In the free world when a man acts like an animal and rapes a woman, HE is punished for his crime, in Islamic countries SHE is punished, even though she is covered head to foot in the most degrading fashion men have ever conceived.
Not Allah, men thought up the Burka as a way to protect their "property" from other men.
When I see young women struggling to be free in Islamic countries, such as Afghanistan, and having acid thrown in their faces by criminals who say they are following Islamic Law, or being murdered by their fathers or brothers for breaking some false belief of Islam, I am outraged, as are most decent humans on this planet.
I am not outraged at you, you probably have no idea at all about freedom or dignity or equality, but your jailers, the Imams who are free to do as they wish, claiming to speak for a god, and their vicious, misogynistic brutality against women, which the world sees on the News and in films and from the victims of this savagery, every day.

Firstly as far as Afghanistan, Sudan , Iran etc are concerned they may claim to be Islamic countries but what we need to see is that whether the Shariah or Islamic Law has been implemented there, If yes no probs…. However we don’t have to waste time checking the same – all we need to do is see the Life of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, his beloved companions n family n we understand the character of a Muslim man, What u have been quoting are isolated incidents blown out of proportion by the media controlled in the hands of western countries,

If your soo concerned with the upliftment of woman status, then in your western countries there are grave problems .According to the National crime Survey (US dept of justice). In US alone there are as in 1996-more than 2713reported cases of rape taking place everyday…. This country claims to have given the freedom to women to wear what they want, do what they want, freedom of anything and everything n now u see the problem.
As much as I empathize with your concern for the Muslim women, I am extremely worried for my dear sisters in Us who are being raped in such a high number. What solution do u have for them???

You speak of flogging etc- to force Hijab-where have u been getting all this info from- Yes there can be isolated incident but then like this we see, everywhere there are ppl who do things which are wrong n beyond belief.
You know in US ,every other day we read of young school boy opening fire in the campus- Is this right? With such advancement you cant even take care of your women and children…..

I m sure you speak of to given the Arabs their Land n that it was a Mistake…
With all your technological advancements you have brought your women down to society butterflies , you have degraded them…..

Look at how women are being dragged to become prostitutes’ n the movies n tv soaps are all filled up with sex n violence….wat are we teaching our kids??? That its OK, to wear wat u like n go where u like n DO what u like.
The result comes down to unplanned pregnancies n abortions….

Who was Mother Mary may Allah be pleased with her, DID she dress up like your advaced women,,,,Abs NOT….we Muslimmahs are only trying to be like her in our modesty…
The Veil is a law in other religion also:
The Christian Bible states: If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off, and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.”(Corinthians 11:6)

There is no harm in uderstanding the concept of faith in ISLAM. give it a try!
Muslim sister.

The most religious Muslim country is Iran.
Not only is rape common, clerics rape women before they murder them for protesting against a crooked election.
They not only follow Sharia in Iran, it is an Islamic Republic.
While it is true that a certain percentage of women are raped, in civilized countries, we report it, we don't hide it, and we punish the rapist.
We don't believe that a woman is responsible for a criminals behavior.

You probably won't understand this, but in our country, we believe women are human beings entitled to equality.
Pregnancy is not caused by human rights for women, remember, there is a man involved, too.

I agree with your comment about Christianity, they should not be in charge of a government either.

Religion should be kept out of government, period.

If there is a G-d, no living man knows him or what he wants or what he looks like or why he lets people suffer.

BTW, The UN estimates that thousands and thousands of women have been raped in Sudan, these are Muslim women raped by Muslim religious men.

Nothing remotely like that is going on in any non-Islamic country.

Well, I am so glad we have the Holy Spirit who is guiding us. I am not alone in here on the earth. I do not have to find out who is God. There is legal document that He left for us who reconciled us back to Him through Jesus. And the Bible says that in front of His eyes there is no difference between man and woman. Jesus is great. He gave me a new life. I am free. The Holy Spirit is guiding me, saving me from troubles. He is gives me wisdom when I don't know what to do. He is real. Highly recommended!

He helps me in my studies. My God is an awesome God! He is heals the brokenhearted! He is Father to the fatherless, and husband for widows. He is God with us.

It doesn't matter what will happen with the economy. He can set a table in the wilderness. I TRUST ONLY HIM!
